10 Tips to Survive in DMZ
DMZ is a survival mode released alongside MWII, often described as a “Tarkov‑like” version of Call of Duty.
Unlike the battle royale mode Warzone, DMZ is not centered around PvP.
Even though it uses the same maps, the gameplay experience is completely different.
The basic flow of DMZ is:
Deployment → Missions / Looting / Combat (Players & AI) → Extraction
Between deployment and extraction, you’ll encounter countless dangers.
Here are the essential tips you should keep in mind to increase your chances of surviving and extracting safely.
1. Don’t Stay at Your Spawn Point
Spawn locations are extremely dangerous.
Experienced players know most spawn points and understand exactly where to go to secure early kills.
Find cover immediately and prepare for combat.
In some cases, grabbing a nearby vehicle and moving toward the center of the map is the safest option.
2. Bring a Spotter Scope
The Spotter Scope is rarely used in Multiplayer, and only occasionally in Ground War or Invasion.
But in DMZ?
It’s one of the most valuable tactical tools you can carry.
You’ll often find Spotter Scopes in Munitions Boxes opened by squads.
You’ll also see them frequently in enemy backpacks.
Even top DMZ streamers and skilled players rely on it.
Use it to:
- Check nearby spawn points right after deployment
- Scan from high ground to automatically mark enemies
- Check sniper hotspots like Al Mazrah City’s tower or the Control Tower
- Identify squads camping near extraction zones
A Spotter Scope helps you avoid unnecessary fights and prevents ambushes.
3. Always Carry Smoke Grenades
If the Spotter Scope is the king of information gathering, Smoke Grenades are the king of survival.
They help you:
- Escape when you’re caught off guard
- Break line of sight from snipers
- Revive teammates safely
Spotter Scope should be brought from your loadout,
while Smoke Grenades can be easily found and stored in your backpack.
4. Get a Scuba Gas Mask
The Scuba Gas Mask dramatically increases underwater breathing time.
A fresh one allows you to swim long distances such as:
- Al Malik Airport → Al Bagra
- Sawah Village → Hafid Port
- Hafid Port → Al Safwa Quarry
If you’re in danger—no plates, no good weapons, being chased, sniped, or outnumbered—
jumping into the ocean can save your life.
Rivers are riskier due to visibility, but distance and angles can still help you escape.
Scuba Masks are often found at gas stations.
5. Don’t Stay in One Place During Fights
Players who hunt other squads are extremely sensitive to gunfire.
Some watch from high ground or helicopters, waiting for opportunities.
Avoid prolonged fights unless necessary.
Even AI fights can attract unwanted attention.
Long engagements often lead to third‑party attacks.
6. Use Suppressed Weapons
Suppressors make DMZ significantly easier.
Benefits:
- Your shots don’t show directional red pings to other players
- AI enemies won’t react to suppressed gunfire, even at close range
Avoiding AI aggro prevents long, messy fights and reinforcements.
Even if you prefer a specific muzzle for recoil control,
having at least one suppressed weapon in your backpack is highly recommended.
7. Don’t Activate UAV Towers Carelessly
UAV Towers are useful, but dangerous.
When activated:
- All players on the map can see which tower was triggered
- Many players will head toward the tower to hunt whoever activated it
Use UAV Towers only when:
- You’re ready to fight nearby players
- You’re about to leave an area and want to check for pursuers
Otherwise, activating them recklessly increases your risk of being ambushed.
8. Obtain Special Fuel and Extract with the Armored Helicopter
If you find the special fuel located in:
- Taraq Village
- Sa’id City
- Al Malik Airport
You can call in the Armored Extraction Helicopter.
This is much safer than standard extraction.
9. Use the Personal Exfil Helicopter
You can buy a Personal Exfil Helicopter at Buy Stations for around $40,000.
It reduces the chance of running into other squads at public exfils.
However:
- Don’t call it in near active fights
- Choose a quiet location
Personal Exfil can also be purchased after the radiation spreads,
making it extremely valuable when avoiding the final exfil.
10. Take Shelter in the Koschei Complex
On Al Mazrah, the Koschei Complex can be used as a last‑resort escape option.
Useful when:
- You must extract a specific item
- You’re being hunted by a Hunt Squad
- The radiation zone is expanding and you can’t reach the final exfil
However:
- Extraction chances don’t necessarily increase
- You can’t bring out weapon cases
- Other players may also be inside
Use it only when you absolutely must survive.
